TL;DR: TEMPO respects your privacy. Your nutrition data stays on YOUR device. We don't sell your data. Analytics are anonymous and optional. Ads are served by Google AdMob (free users only). You control your data.
1. Introduction
Welcome to TEMPO ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use our mobile app TEMPO - Nutrition Tracker ("App").
By using the App, you consent to the practices described below.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Personal Data You Provide
- Account Information: Name, email, and profile picture if you sign in with Google (optional).
- Health & Nutrition Data: Weight, height, age, gender, BMI, nutritional goals, daily calorie intake, macronutrient targets.
- Food Consumption Data: Logged foods, meals, serving sizes, nutritional information, custom foods created.
- Activity Data: Activity level, exercise frequency (self-reported).
- App Settings: Theme, notifications, language preferences, dietary restrictions, allergies.
Health Data Notice: TEMPO collects health-related information including weight, nutritional intake, and dietary preferences. This data is considered sensitive and is handled with extra security measures.
2.2 Automatically Collected Data
- Device Info: Device type, OS version, anonymized unique identifiers.
- Usage Data: App interactions, session duration, anonymized analytics (Firebase Analytics).
- Crash Reports: Diagnostic data to fix bugs (Firebase Crashlytics).
- Ad Data (Free Users): Ad impressions, clicks, and ad performance data collected by Google AdMob.
2.3 Data We Do NOT Collect

- ❌ Photos, videos, files (except food photos you explicitly choose to attach)
- ❌ Microphone access
- ❌ Financial information (payments via Google Play and RevenueCat)
- ❌ Browsing history
- ❌ Medical records or doctor prescriptions
3. How We Use Your Information
- Core Functionality: Nutrition tracking, calorie counting, meal planning, goal setting, progress tracking, syncing.
- AI Features: Food recognition, nutrition analysis, and personalized recommendations using Google Gemini AI (processed securely).
- Improvement: Anonymized analytics to enhance features and fix bugs.
- Communication: Important app updates, nutrition tips if you opt-in.
- Advertising (Free Users): Display relevant ads via Google AdMob.
- Legal: Compliance with laws.
We DO NOT:
- ❌ Sell your nutrition or health data
- ❌ Share your food logs or health metrics with third parties (except as described below)
- ❌ Use your health data for advertising targeting
4. Data Storage and Security
4.1 Local Storage (Default)
All nutrition data is stored locally on your device using SQLite. Data does not leave your device unless you enable cloud sync.
4.2 Cloud Storage (Optional)
Enabling cloud sync stores your data encrypted in Firebase Firestore, allowing access across devices.
4.3 Security Measures
- HTTPS/TLS encryption for data in transit
- Encrypted storage in Firebase (AES-256)
- Access control: only you can access your data
- Google Sign-In (OAuth 2.0) for authentication
- Health data isolation: extra protection layers
5. Third-Party Services
We use third-party services that may collect data:

5.2 Google AdMob (Free Users Only)
Free users see ads powered by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect:
- Device identifiers (Advertising ID)
- Ad interactions (impressions, clicks)
- General device info (OS, screen size)
Premium users DO NOT see ads and AdMob does not collect data.

5.3 RevenueCat
Handles premium subscriptions. Collects purchase info, email (optional), device identifiers.

5.4 Google Gemini AI
Powers food recognition and nutrition analysis. Food photos and queries are sent to Google's servers for processing.
- Data is processed securely and not stored by Google beyond processing needs
- No personal identifiers are sent
- You can disable AI features in settings

5.5 Nutrition APIs
- Edamam API: Food database queries (food names only, no personal data)
- OpenFoodFacts: Barcode scanning (product codes only, no personal data)
6. Your Rights
6.1 Access and Control
- View, edit, export, or delete nutrition data anytime in the app.
- Delete account: Settings > Account > Delete Account (removes cloud data).
- Export data: Settings > Data > Export (CSV or JSON format).
6.2 Opt-Out Options
- Disable analytics: Settings > Privacy > Analytics
- Disable notifications: Android Settings > Apps > TEMPO > Notifications
- Disable cloud sync: Settings > Account > Cloud Sync
- Disable AI features: Settings > Features > AI Assistant
- Remove ads: Upgrade to Premium
6.3 GDPR (EU/EEA Users)
- Access, rectify, or delete personal data
- Withdraw consent for optional features (analytics, cloud sync, AI)
- Data portability (export in machine-readable format)
- Object to processing
- Right to be forgotten (complete data deletion)

7. Children's Privacy
TEMPO is not for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe your child provided data, contact privacy@ritmoapp.com.
8. Data Retention
- Local data: until app uninstall or data clear
- Cloud data: until account deletion
- Analytics: anonymized, up to 14 months
- Crash reports: 90 days
- Food photos: until you delete them or delete account
- AI processing: temporary, not stored beyond processing
9. International Transfers
Data may be processed in countries outside your residence (e.g., Firebase servers in USA). We ensure GDPR/CCPA-compliant safeguards using Standard Contractual Clauses.
10. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
- Contract: Essential for app functionality (nutrition tracking, calorie counting, sync)
- Consent: Optional features like analytics, cloud sync, AI features, ads (free users)
- Legitimate Interest: Improve app, fix bugs, prevent fraud (anonymized)
- Vital Interest: Health data for nutrition tracking (explicit consent required)
11. Advertising & Cookies
11.1 Advertising (Free Users)
Free users see ads via Google AdMob. These ads may be personalized based on:
- General interests (inferred from device behavior, not your nutrition data)
- App category (health & fitness)
- Device characteristics
Your nutrition data is NEVER used for ad targeting.
11.2 Cookies
The app does not use traditional cookies. Firebase Analytics and AdMob use device identifiers which can be reset in Android Settings > Google > Ads > Reset advertising ID.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. Changes will be notified by:
- Posting in the app
- Updating "Last updated" date
- In-app notification for significant changes
- Email notification for material changes (if you provided email)
